The LA Times polled a panel of coaster experts to determine their own list of the top ranked wooden roller coasters. Aside from The Raven and GhostRider, I can't argue with the coasters listed.

I agree with almost all of their picks, with the notable exception of The Beast. It's only attribute is length. It rests sqarely at the bottom of my wooden coaster list or, if your prefer, at the top of my worst coasters ever list. Definitely ranks an "NA! (Never Again!)
I agree with most of the top 10. Although, personally I'd put Ghostrider in my top five.
The only one of these coasters I've been on is El Toro, but if it's any indication, I can't wait to ride some of these others. I'm surprised that the New Texas Giant isn't on the list. Are these other coasters that much better, or was it not open yet before the article was written?
The New Texas Giant wasn't open yet. It'll be neat to see how it ranks in the various polls this off season.
